The other day my grandmother called me over and in an almost excited whisper and mentioned that she had something to show me. This was our conversation:
Avó: Usually when people die, the family gets stressed because they’re sad and there is so much to do and figure out. I don’t want anyone to be stressed when I die.
Me: Oh Avó, why do we always have to talk about you dying?!
Avó: I know you don’t like talking about me dying but I wanted to show you that I already have my clothes ready for the funeral. Now nobody has to worry about trying to find something for me to wear.
Me: Does that suit jacket even fit you??
Avó: Probably not. The funeral can just cut it at the back.
Me: I don’t think the funeral home can just cut a suit jacket down the back. What about the skirt? It doesn’t look like it’ll fit you either. When’s the last time you wore this?
Avó: They can cut the skirt too!
Me: Avó, you don’t need underwear do you?!
Avó: Yes, of course! I need to be wearing underwear when I meet Jesus!!
She definitely has her priorities in order! And at that we both walked away laughing. It’s so nice to know that she’s chosen me to be responsible for something that’s so important to her.
